On November 7, the 2024 Beijing Science and Technology Awards Conference was held at the Beijing Convention Center. The project Key Technologies for Intelligent Vehicle Driving Safety and Their Industrial Applications, led by Tsinghua University and jointly submitted by Velobotics, was awarded the First Prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award. This honor is not only a high recognition of Velobotics' technological strength and innovative achievements, but also marks a solid step forward in China's key technologies for intelligent vehicle safety.


Supported by Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Programs and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the project Key Technologies for Intelligent Vehicle Driving Safety and Their Industrial Applications has undergone over a decade of collaborative industry-university-research efforts. It has broken through the bottleneck of unified perception and cognition of driving risks for intelligent vehicles in complex environments, conquered the core technologies of vehicle adaptive decision-making and control, developed an integrated intelligent vehicle driving safety system, and achieved large-scale industrial application.
The project has made breakthroughs in the technology for unified perception and cognition of intelligent vehicle driving risks. It pioneered the innovative concept of "Driving Safety Field" internationally, established a unified driving risk assessment model, and realized accurate cognition and prediction of multi-dimensional (omnidirectional) risks. Meanwhile, it has also mastered the adaptive decision-making and safety control technologies for intelligent vehicles, enabling adaptive decision-making and precise control of vehicles in complex environments. In addition, the project has developed safety intelligent driving system integration and application testing technologies based on software-hardware collaborative optimization and vehicle-in-the-loop (VIL) testing, and established the world’s first VIL-based test and evaluation system for intelligent vehicle safe driving, effectively promoting the high-quality R&D, testing and verification, and industrial application of vehicle safe driving systems.
To date, the project Key Technologies for Intelligent Vehicle Driving Safety and Their Industrial Applications has accumulated 375 authorized invention patents (domestic and international), 25 software copyrights, 121 published papers, and 68 formulated standards—including 10 international standards and 25 national standards. These achievements have systematically broken through the technical bottlenecks of traditional vehicle driving safety systems, comprehensively enhanced the technological innovation capability of the intelligent vehicle industry and the core competitiveness of enterprises, and hold significant strategic importance for the high-quality development of China’s automotive industry.
